Is it just me?
Posted by Matt in Day to Day

I was watching TV Sunday night and I saw an odor eaters commercial. Nasty green clouds emanating from a pair of penny loafers and they say something like "Your foot odor may be worse then you think". Then they zoom in on a penny and Abe Lincoln coughs and lets out a "blech". The next think I think is "That doesn’t sound like Abe Lincoln". Well, nobody really knows what he sounds like. But with all the plays and movies, I seem to think of him with a voice like that in Bill and Ted’s excellent adventure. So, am I the only one who thinks they know what Abe sounds like? Be honest :-)

This very subject is covered in Michael Crighton's book "Timeline". A company who has discovered time travel uses it to go back to important dates in history. When they bring back a recording of Abraham Lincoln giving a speech (probably the Gettysburg Address, but I can't remember now), they decide to shelve it because they can't get over how whiny his voice really was.

honestly matt, yes you are the only one. ;-)

actually if i had to pick an abe lincoln voice it would be that one from that old star trek episode where aliens manufacture a fake lincoln. later on he gets killed somehow and then (a klingon?) starts yelling "help me jim!" as though he were abe.

its like one of those enigmas, wrapped in a riddle. kinda like bacon wrapped around, eh, some sort of cheesey commestible. a fake abe lincoln being imitated by a klingon.

gack.

see what lotusscript does to my brain?

It's not just lotusscript. I think it is code in general. Why else would this post exist? :-P

Wow, I forgot about that in the book. See, Matt? I've been trying to get you to read that book for ages. :-)
