Five years of "mawwaige"

Announcements
On Friday, October 13th, Matt and I celebrated our five-year anniversary. Our wedding day was a BLAST, in traditional Matt and Jess style, much goofiness ensued.

Of course, all the goofiness ensued *after* we worked out the issues of getting married on a Naval base one month after 9/11. Two weeks before the wedding, they announced the base was closed to civilians due to "high alert" and relocated our wedding down the street. Then, after I called all the vendors and was *just* about to send out notices to the guests, they moved it back.
The limo had to snake through the Jersey barriers and armed guards, and the cake got detained at the gate for a few hours because it was being delivered in an unmarked truck.
Of course, at that point, people were still trying to remember how to laugh and smile, so I think we all needed a good celebration.
I'd love to live my wedding day all over again. But, in the meantime, I get to be happy every day with my husband. I'm the luckiest woman I know.
We also decided to surprise each other with very special anniversary gifts. We've been together for 12 years, and finally the man has learned to relax! He's been enjoying cigars lately, so thanks to Greyhawk's advice, I was able to get him a beautiful humidor and a bunch of cigars to start with.
As for my gift, Matt sent me on a treasure hunt around the house with clues. It ended at a stunning gift - a custom engraved Whalen shift knob. Doug Whalen is a machine engineer who is world famous for amazing craftsmanship in his custom shift knobs. They are 18 ounces, which are very heavy. This means that the gear just seems to find it's own way into the right place.
It's crafted so well, that the shifter just clicks into place solidly. I'm so lucky to have one, and not only that, Matt worked with Doug to create a custom bead-blasted finish that has my Solace logo on it.
Thanks Matt, I love you!

Congratulations! You guys are such a great couple, and I hope to see "White Chocolate" join you at Lotusphere again this year!!!
Glad to be of help on the humidor stuff too... Are we going to get to see pictures of it as well?!?! I want to know what I helped you to decide :-)
Anyway, congrats again, it's so nice to see happy marriages in this age of divorce.

P.S. Last weekend we showed our daughters the Princess Bride for the first time, and they LOVED it...
OMG! I'd missed this post until today. CONGRATULATIONS to one of our favoritest couples! And that shift knob is tripendicular. Very very kewl. We are REALLLLLY looking forward to seeing you guys again in Jan ....and of course, you are welcome absolutely any time that you might care for a quick Tampa break (been making a mental list of places to go and things to do the next time y'all make it down).
Cheers! Give Matt a sloppy kiss for me ;-)
I didn't get this in my RSS feed til today. Hmmm.
Congratulations! Excellent shift knob. Almost makes me want to learn to drive a stick.
Thanks everyone! And no worries, you all didn't miss the post. I didn't post anything about it until the 16th, even though the anniversary was the 13th. I was slackish. :-)
Grey, I'll get a picture of the humidor once it's all conditioned!
Wow...5 years.....
Are you guys headed to Universal as usual? Will Matt be going to LS 2007?
Congrats!
No, this will be the first year we miss Halloween Horror Nights at Universal... :-'(
Matt's just as excited as I am for LS07! We'll definately be there. If my abstracts aren't accepted, I can't go to the conference because my new office is making my budget nonexistant, but we'll be there to party crash the networking events after. :-)
I just saw this today...so sorry for my tardiness, ma'am. :-D
Happy, happy, happy fifth year of connubial bliss. Your wedding photo is beautiful, and the shift knob is awesome.
Congratulations.
