Solace Learning Website Revamp
Posted by Jess in Solace

I was never really happy with my old Solace website, and there were several CSS placement issues that just wouldn't go away.

So, it was time for a redesign. This site is much more comprehensive, and looks a little more like a "real operation".

This one contains directions, gift certificate info, course catalogs, press details, general info, and answers to other questions that I get asked a lot.

Please take a look at my site, not as a developer or corporate admin, but as an end user that just needs to find information easily. Let me know what you think!

Great new design. And I wouldn't know how to be anything other than an "end user", lol. But... um... sweetie, your website will let us book private sessions while you're probably going to be in the hospital with a bouncing baby bundle of joy! lol! Just wanted to let you know. :)

Hi Jess
Love the website, and the chatty tone you have! Just one slight error on the 'Why do I need ...' page - line 3 I think it is - you have missed the 'y' off 'technology' (probably because your eyes can see a 'y' in the next word 'you'). Thought you might want to know this as it is so professional overall!!!
We're all waiting here in the UK with baited breath for August's new delivery!! Love to you both (all??!!) Carolyn

Hi Jess,
The site looks great. Just a couple of observations...

Love this: "Or, if you're a native Rhode Islander:
Yes, it IS located where that small art gallery used to be." (and I'm not even a native) I'll bet a lot of folks appreciate that directive.

Don't so much love the clipart image - that address book and clock thing. I'd rather see a photograph. Maybe it appeals to new computer users, though. If so, then that might be a reason to keep it.

On the "What is Solace" page, it says you can view the catalog, but doesn't really point the way (with a link, or something that says "linked at the top right side of the page", or something). It's like having a new guest at your home and telling them they can use the restroom, but not telling them how to get there. (An odd analogy, but hey, it works ;-)

That's all I see. Otherwise a nice update.

Jeez, Jess -- I don't think I CAN look at a website without looking at it as a developer. (I'll admit it -- I did a View->Source. I couldn't help myself. It's what I DO.) I'll skip proofreading the content and concentrate on the design.

Love the big, friendly "Don't Panic" on the cover. Solace lends itself well to the "Web 2.0" look -- it fits perfectly with the aim of the business and with the target clientelle. There are only a couple of things that jump out at me. The first is the heavy black border around the clock-and-daytimer pic -- something a little less, um, heavy-handed would work a lot better, I think. And there's the misalignment between the large horizontal content area and the sidebar -- it's too close to look like it was designed that way on purpose. Fix those two things and you've got yourself a real winner.
