Create a Website Shortcut on your Desktop
I’m sure you’ve been in that situation where you needed to close out of the browser, but didn’t want to lose the site you were on. It’s a temporary thing… you could bookmark it, but you’ll never remember to take it out of there when you are done with it. It’s just going to clutter it up. What to do? Create a shortcut!
This month’s tip is quick and dirty. In one simple step, you can place a shortcut directly to the website right on your desktop for easy retrieval later. And it’s temporary – when you’re finished with it, it goes in the Recycle Bin. You won’t even forget to delete it – it’s most likely going to be pretty blatant out there on your desktop!
Internet Explorer AND Netscape
1. First go to the website you want to make a shortcut to!
2. Find anywhere on the site that doesn’t have any images on it. It’s easiest if you pick a spot that has no text OR images.
3. Right mouse click
4. Scroll down to “Create Shortcut”.
5. The following message will appear (a similar one will appear for Netscape):
6. To see the shortcut, look at your desktop, and you’ll see something like this:
Now, every time you want to see the web site, it’s just a matter of clicking on the shortcut you just made at your desktop. And it’s completely temporary and easy to dispose of. When you’re done with it, drag it to the Recycle Bin! Now, welcome to my problem – too many shortcuts on the desktop. It’s worse than Post-It Notes! Happy Shortcutting.
